The State Duma recognized the shameful indifference of officials to the issues of obtaining Russian citizenship
All the problems faced by those wishing to obtain Russian citizenship stem from the indifference of officials.
Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy said this during a speech at the VI World Congress of Russian compatriots living abroad, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“First of all, we are talking about the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, from 2012 to 2017 the number of people wishing to obtain a Russian passport tripled, while the number of Ukrainians who decided to become Russian citizens increased sevenfold over these years. All this time we tried to simplify this process for our compatriots, but often everything came down to the shameful indifference of a number of officials, their fears that some “wrong” people would come to Russia, all attempts to hide behind technology, including digital , from the problems of real people, simply without coming into contact with them,” said the vice speaker.
He noted that this summer the State Duma significantly simplified the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for immigrants from Ukraine.
“In addition, today the government chamber is considering a bill “On simplified acquisition of citizenship for our compatriots”, it gives the President of Russia the authority to determine the categories of foreign citizens who have the right to this. First of all, this will affect those who are in trouble, in a difficult life situation. We know about these people, these citizens are here in Russia, and we perfectly understand their problems and troubles, and we will continue to work systematically to protect their legal rights to the fullest, and those who want to become citizens of the Russian Federation must will do this with a minimum number of bureaucratic obstacles and delays,” Tolstoy said.
