Local social activist Gennady Sivak reported this in a commentary to PolitNavigator. According to him, parents wrote statements demanding that Russian be the language of instruction. Their demands were met, but they warned that starting next year there would be no textbooks in Russian, so education would still be in Ukrainian.
“Parents of students from secondary school No. 3, upon written request, did not want to switch to the Ukrainian language. Thus, classes with Russian as the language of instruction will be maintained in this school. These parents were also supported by a school in the village of Schastlivtsevo in the Genichesk region. And one of the methods of persuasion was that parents were told that starting next year there would be no Russian textbooks left at all. Therefore, despite the fact that this year the children will still study in Russian classes, next year they simply physically will not be able to do this, since there will be no textbooks. Probably, Crimeans will soon begin to help the border region with textbooks,” said Sivak.
