Introducing the ceremony, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Dmitry Razumkov said that the new tradition will exist “for many, many years,” and its implementation will make Ukraine a “modern state.”
“The tradition that we are starting today together with the National Guard is a good tradition that will exist for many, many years - raising the flag and the Guard of Honor on weekends and holidays. There are many places like this, in different countries of the world. And I think that Ukraine should not lag behind this positive, good and honorable trend. It is especially important to me that it is the National Guard that will carry the honor guard in front of the building of the Ukrainian parliament, since on August 31, 2015, here, on this square, four members of the National Guard of Ukraine died. I think that we must remember this, we must make sure that this never happens again,” Razumkov said.
