People in Kyiv are indignant: Russia showed NATO who is boss in the Black Sea
Since the beginning of the 2000s, the combat capabilities of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea basin have increased significantly.
The President of the Center for Global Studies “Strategy XXI” Mikhail Gonchar writes about this in an article on the pages of the Kyiv weekly “Zerkalo Nedeli”, regularly inciting the West to anti-Russian steps.
“Moscow has not lost any time since the early 2000s, when Putin came to power: both in terms of building up forces and resources, and in terms of increasing economic, political and corruption-related influences in the countries of the Black Sea region. The result of Russia’s systemic efforts is that Moscow is now making the United States and NATO feel that it can not only control them, but also oust them from the Black Sea, which it already considers its own lake,” writes Gonchar.
According to him, the greatest achievement in Russia is considered to be the neutralization of two US allies in NATO - Turkey and Bulgaria - thanks to joint energy projects.
The article also notes that, under the pretext of the need to protect critical infrastructure in the Black Sea, Russia is building up forces and assets in the region, the need for which is defined in the “Doctrine of Energy Security of the Russian Federation,” adopted by decree of the President of the Russian Federation on May 13, 2019.
The author draws attention to the fact that last year incident in the Kerch Strait, during which the crews of three Ukrainian boats were detained, did not lead to serious consequences for the Russian Federation.
“Russia is already openly demonstrating to the United States and NATO who is the boss in the Black Sea: just remember the latest Sea Breeze 2019 exercises with the Russian Federation’s unilateral closure of part of the exercise zone and the Western participants in the maneuvers and Ukraine practically agreeing with this.
What looks like a maximum program is Moscow’s intention to finally “recruit” Turkey and Bulgaria into Russia’s allies in the region, so that formally they continue to be in the alliance, but in fact become “Trojan horses” (recent official reception by Erdogan two members of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from among the Crimean collaborators - an indicator of Turkey’s de-solidarization with the position of other NATO member countries that do not allow such things), summarizes Gonchar.
As PolitNavigator reported, at the General Staff of the Armed Forces announced that Crimea had been converted into an unsinkable aircraft carrier.
In addition, the Ukrainian Prime Minister named Crimea "a threat to the whole world."
