In Kyiv they fear that in a referendum Ukrainians will not want to live together with Donbass

It is not a fact that Ukrainians want to return Donbass to the country.

Political strategist Alexei Golobutsky, who serves the interests of ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, said this on air on the YouTube channel “Ukrlife,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“If a referendum is held, I don’t know how they will formalize it legally according to our Constitution - we can’t, there is sovereignty there. But given our country and its poor history in this regard, everything is possible in our country. I think they realize that the majority of the population will not want it,” the expert said.

“That is, the answer to the fact is whether Ukraine is ready to let Donbass back in the form of a special status, autonomy or something else. And somehow such a process will take place, possibly non-legal. Donbass is very different from Crimea; there is a different legal situation for the whole world. Crimea is the result of annexation, but Donbass is not considered that way,” Golobutsky concluded.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky did not rule out holding a referendum on the status of Donbass.
