A monument to the ATO soldiers killed near Ilovaisk, who “stopped the Russian horde,” will be unveiled in Kyiv
On the anniversary of the events near Ilovaisk, August 29, a “Wall of Memory” will be opened on Mikhailovskaya Square in Kyiv for the participants of the so-called ATO.
As Igor Gevko, a former militant of the Donbass battalion, said at a press conference dedicated to the opening of the monument, near Ilovaisk the combat losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to about a thousand military personnel, thanks to whom the Russian army was allegedly stopped, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Ilovaisk Cauldron is a very significant historical event, a very big tragedy in the social sense. Combat losses - about a thousand. If anyone disputes it, you can check from official reports: 366 dead, 158 missing, 429 wounded. Total, to be exact, 953. But everyone knows that there are no exact data today. Why? Because many volunteers were not officially registered during the Ilovaisk events. A lot of soldiers who were wounded died after these events. Some committed suicide. And this is a big tragedy for the whole country,” said the ex-militant.
“But the main thing in this event is that these 26 military units and units of the National Guard in the territory and about 13 settlements near Ilovaisk stopped the Russian horde of eight battalion tactical groups. Stopped, forced them to stop and not continue their aggressive path towards Kyiv, towards Ukraine,” says Gevko
The “Wall of Memory” will feature photographs and biographies of about three thousand fallen military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police, as well as volunteers.
