Russian border guards detained a Ukrainian fishing boat in the Sea of ​​Azov for violating fishing rules, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

It is reported by the press service of the Ministry.

“A foreign small craft was discovered in the Yeisk Spit area. He was detained and taken to the port of Yeisk. More than 240 kilograms of fish were found in the motor boat, including 17 specimens of prohibited pike perch, as well as a dozen nets. The catch and prohibited fishing gear on board were seized,” the Russian FSB said in a statement for the Krasnodar Territory.

The captain of the detained ship “was brought to administrative responsibility by the Yeisk Magistrate Court.” He was given a fine of 5 thousand rubles. In addition, the boat itself was confiscated by court decision.

In turn, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don sent a note to the representative office of the Russian Foreign Ministry with a request to refute or confirm information about the detention of Ukrainian fishermen in the Sea of ​​Azov.

“On November 19, 2018, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don sent a note to the representative office of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the city of Krasnodar with a request to confirm or deny the fact of detention and inform about the place of their detention,” said the Deputy Director of the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Head of the Consular Department activities of Vasily Kirilich.

According to him, if confirmed, the consul will provide protection to detained Ukrainian citizens.
