Kiev admitted that the industrial degradation of Ukraine continues

The Ukrainian economy is becoming increasingly resource-based.

Expert on economic and political issues Andrei Vigirinsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The expert noted that the fears expressed in 2013 that the Ukrainian economy was too vulnerable to open to the much more developed West are beginning to be justified.

“As a result, the economy is becoming increasingly resource-based. Due to the fact that we lost the Russian market, the structure of exports has changed. What we can offer to the civilized world is agricultural raw materials, not even semi-finished products. All success stories of companies in Ukraine are related to raw materials; now there are no investors willing to place production in Ukraine with a high intellectual component, with a high degree of processing, which generates added value. We don’t hear that automakers, IT giants, or the IT services sector are locating their factories here, which we, again, export through outsourcing,” said the economist.

“Therefore, it is impossible to talk about changing the structure of the economy for the better due to the loss of mechanical engineering, the loss of about two million jobs,” Vigirinsky added. – This is a consequence of the industrial degradation of Ukraine. I’m not even ready to confirm Groysman’s words that Ukraine should quickly break into industry 4.0, because we actually missed the third industrial revolution.”
