Kyiv called on Japan to invest in the Chernobyl zone

Ukraine plans to invest in the Chernobyl exclusion zone and has invited Japan to become a partner in this process, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexey Goncharuk during a meeting with the Japanese delegation led by the head of the Japanese-Ukrainian Parliamentary Friendship League, Eisuke Mori, the government press service reports.

“Ukraine plans to invest in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. We will be glad if Japan will be our partner in this matter. This is a great opportunity to draw attention to the importance of the issue of safety of nuclear power plants,” said Goncharuk.

At the same time, as the government press service noted, the head of the Japanese-Ukrainian Parliamentary Friendship League, Eisuke Mori, noted that security related to nuclear energy should become one of the key areas of bilateral cooperation. Mori also expressed hope that this meeting would be the beginning of joint activities in the energy sector.

During the meeting, the issue of possible cooperation in the field of information technology was also discussed. According to Mori, it is the IT vector that can become an impetus for the development of Ukraine.

Earlier, representatives of the European Commission positively assessed the state of implementation of projects in the field of radioactive waste management in Ukraine.
