Kyiv has come to terms with Nord Stream 2
Ukraine needs to prepare for the fact that earnings from the transit of Russian gas to EU countries will decrease significantly after the construction of Nord Stream 2.
Ex-battalion commander of “Aidar”, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Sergei Melnichuk said this on the air of the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The reality is that Germany will not yield to us. German businessmen, who fill the budget of the Federal Republic of Germany, they built and will continue to build. They will not give up theirs. Yes, there will be negotiations with the United States and there will be concessions to American firms that are trying to enter the European gas market. There will be construction of terminals through which gas will be supplied from the United States. Therefore, the European gas market will be divided, and frankly Ukraine is losing its position as a transit country,” the deputy said.
He noted that Ukraine fulfills its transit responsibilities efficiently, but this will in no way affect the fate of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
“As a transit provider, we provide our services efficiently and on time. It is a fact that we will earn less from this. It is important that the transit potential that will go through our gas transportation system does not decrease to a certain amount for the self-sufficiency of this gas pipeline,” the politician believes.
Let us recall that PolitNavigator previously reported that if, after the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the transit of Russian gas to the EU through Ukrainian territory stops, then Ukraine will suffer economic damage of 3 percent of GDP.
