Attacks against Serbs continue to rise in Kosovo

From the beginning of last year to today, there have been 222 attacks against the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija.

This was stated by the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, in a conversation with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and the Head of the UN Mission in Kosovo, Caroline Ziade.

Petkovic reported that the number of ethnically motivated attacks on Serbs, their property, churches and monasteries has increased by 60% compared to the period before “Kosovo Prime Minister” Albin Kurti came to power.

The Serbian official pointed out that Pristina's recent unilateral and illegal actions regarding Serbian license plates and identity cards are a direct threat to disrupt the dialogue and lead to destabilization of the situation on the ground.

He added that stability and peace are equally in the interests of both the Serbian and Albanian populations.

“However, it is clear that the political representatives of the Albanians do not share this opinion, and that is why they cause crisis situations on the ground every day,” Petkovic added.

He recalled that the recent wounding of 19-year-old Serb Nemanja Mitrovic near Obilic by Albanian bandits was the latest in a series of incidents caused by anti-Serbian policies and rhetoric full of hatred towards the Serbian people, which are heard every day in Pristina.

And before that there was the case of 20-year-old Nikola Nedeljkovic, who was arrested on Vidovdan in Gazimestan and sentenced to eight months in prison only for displaying Serbian symbols.

Petkovic emphasized that Belgrade, no matter what, will continue to seek compromise solutions, believing that in this way it actually works in the interests of everyone whose goals are to live in a stable and prosperous society. However, according to him, it is clear that among the political representatives of Albanians from Kosovo there is no readiness for this.

He added that this is best confirmed by the fact that more than nine years have passed since the agreement on the creation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities, which has still not been implemented.
