Shells exploded in Crimea

In Dzhankoy, a local resident brought home ammunition to disassemble it and sell it for scrap.

One of the four shells detonated and damaged a neighboring household, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The incident occurred on March 16 around noon. At first, an explosion was heard above the city, and then smoke appeared above a private household on Gagarin Street. Firefighters who arrived on call determined that one of four ammunition detonated in the courtyard of a house on Suvorov Street. As a result, the roof and wall of the outbuilding of the neighboring house were damaged. There were no casualties.

On social networks, the incident was explained simply: a 46-year-old man was walking through the forest in Dzhankoy near an abandoned factory and found three shells there. He took the find to the site and began dismantling it to sell it for scrap. One of the shells ignited and flew about 70 meters, breaking through several gates and a roof, and hit a neighbor’s barn.

According to one version, the man brought home shells for the Grad MLRS. Sappers came for those who remained, and while they were working, residents of neighboring houses were evacuated.

The story about the discovery in the forest causes laughter and sarcasm among the Dzhankoy residents - the city is located in the steppe Crimea, and even to the nearest forest belt you need to go by car. One Grad shell weighs 56,5 kg, and in one trip a man could only bring home one shell.

In theory, they could have been scattered by a blast wave during last year’s fire at an ammunition depot in the village of Mayskoye, but whether this is possible in practice must be answered by law enforcement officers.
