In the Lugansk region, local residents dismantled a railway for scrap metal
In the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Lugansk region, attackers dismantled the “mothballed” Popasnaya-Dekonskaya railway track, located on the demarcation line with the LPR, which is on the balance sheet of the Donetsk Railway state enterprise, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Department of Internal Security of the National Police of Ukraine.
According to law enforcement officers, employees of the Lugansk Department of the Department of Internal Security of the NPU received operational information about the criminal intentions of a group of residents of the region.
“The attackers, for the sake of their own profit, were going to dismantle and sell for scrap the “mothballed” Popasnaya-Dekonskaya railway track, located on the demarcation line, and which is on the balance sheet of the Donetsk Railway State Enterprise. In the area of 74 km of the specified railway track, internal security operatives of the NPU detained eight people aged from 31 to 43 years. Using gas cutters, the attackers dismantled the rails, each 11 meters long, and then loaded them onto a URAL vehicle. We managed to cut and load 135 meters of railway track and fastenings. According to preliminary estimates, the thieves caused almost 327 hryvnia in damage to the railway workers through their actions,” the press service said.
An investigative and operational group of the Popaska department of the Luhansk region police was called to the scene of the incident. Two excavators, a URAL with a trailer, a VAZ car and two gas cutters were seized. The attackers were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. In the near future, they will be charged with suspicion under Part 3 of Article 185 (theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
