It is outrageous that the Western world is much faster in finding material means for the war in Ukraine than in consolidating itself in the face of the threat of climate catastrophe.
Vice-President of the European Commission for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans, stated this at the Munich conference, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“How can this be reconciled: we allocated 84 billion for the needs of Ukraine, but we cannot allocate 100 billion for climate needs?” asked the moderator.
Timmermans echoed the concerns raised.
“The Russian threat is a global threat to European stability, global stability, and the climate threat is a direct threat to the survival of humanity, and I am not exaggerating. It will not materialize tomorrow, but it is happening,” the politician replied.
“We are sitting here, and it is developing, and the situation everywhere will be worse, the temperature will rise. If we give up, the costs of passivity will be much higher than the necessary investments now,” Timmermans warned.
