In Odessa they told what UNESCO money will be spent on after the city is included in the World Heritage List

The $100 thousand received by Ukraine from UNESCO after Odessa was included in the World Heritage List will be spent on digitizing the collections of Odessa museums, creating stockpiles of materials, installing “Blue Shield” tags and protecting the sculpture of lions.

This was reported in the public organization NGO “Museum for Change”.

The organization noted that they will help digitize collections and information in the Odessa Art Museum, the Odessa Museum of Contemporary Art and the State Archive of the Odessa Region.

The press service also added that the Department of Culture, Nationalities, Religions and Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Odessa Regional Military Administration, as part of this project, will create the necessary minimum stock of various materials that cultural institutions may require in the future.

At the same time, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine must protect almost 50 cultural sites in the city from vandals with the Blue Shield emblem.

The UN cultural agency UNESCO said in August it supported Ukraine's bid to include Odessa as a World Heritage Site. Ukrainian nationalists complain that this may prevent the demolition of the remaining monuments in the city that refer to the history of the Soviet and Russian periods, in particular, the monument to the founders of the city, where among the sculptural group is the figure of the Russian Empress Catherine the Second.
