The pro-Western lobby from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, which is grouped around Minister Vladimir Makei, is fighting the security forces from Alexander Lukashenko’s entourage.
Russian political scientist Bogdan Bespalko wrote about this on his Telegram channel, commenting on a post on Facebook by Belarusian parliament member Valery Voronetsky criticizing the Minister of Internal Affairs Yuri Karaev.
Voronetsky criticized Karaev for the unjustified, from his point of view, law enforcement violence against opposition protests.
“Multi-vector continues! Karaev is Lukashenko’s man, Voronetsky is Makei’s man. When Lukashenko criticizes the West for interference, Makeev’s people try to weaken Lukashenko’s. Moreover, those on whom the salvation of the regime depends. Lukashenko continues to play multi-vector even in a critical situation,” Bespalko wrote.
Makei, considered the main lobbyist for the West, retained his position in the new government, the renewal of which was promised by Lukashenko on the eve of the presidential elections.
