Poland advocates the creation at the UN of the post of special representative of the Organization’s Secretary General on the situation in Ukraine and the expansion of the Normandy format (Ukraine, France, Germany, Russia), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was stated by the country's Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz at a meeting with journalists dedicated to the country's upcoming chairmanship of the UN Security Council in August, Polish Radio reports.

“In the discussion on Ukraine, we presented certain concrete solutions. One of them was the appointment of a special envoy of the UN Secretary General on the conflict in Ukraine,” the minister said, emphasizing that “this proposal has not yet been accepted.” “We think it is worth thinking about an institution that could continue to address this conflict,” he added.

“From our point of view, the Normandy format did not bring the planned results,” said Czaputowicz, drawing attention to the proposal of the Ukrainian authorities to expand this format by including players such as the United States and Great Britain. “We think it's worth taking a closer look at this proposal. Perhaps this is a good decision,” said the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry.

Poland will chair the UN Security Council for the second time during its non-permanent membership in this organization (2018-2020).
