12 Ukrainian soldiers were arrested in absentia in the Russian Federation

The Russian Federation and Ukraine continue to exchange blows using the legal arsenal. So, today, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation chose in absentia a preventive measure in the form of detention of 12 Ukrainian military personnel due to the events in Donbass since the beginning of the year.

“The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation continues to work on documenting the facts of “crimes” committed by the Ukrainian military in Donbass. This year, more than 50 criminal cases have been initiated regarding shelling of settlements in south-eastern Ukraine with heavy weapons, including against specific representatives of Ukrainian security forces, and other crimes.

98 people were brought to criminal responsibility in criminal cases related to events in Ukraine, including 47 representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 12 accused were taken in absentia as a preventive measure in the form of detention, a number of them were put on the international wanted list,” the statement says.

It is also noted that today the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia has opened 6 more criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of prohibited means and methods of warfare).

According to the Russian investigation, from May 31 to June 5, 2017, Ukrainian military personnel repeatedly fired artillery shells from heavy weapons at civilian targets located in the villages of Krutaya Balka, Yasinovatsky district, Staromikhailovka, Trudovskaya, the city of Yasinovataya, as well as along Lugovaya Street in Donetsk. As a result, according to the Russian Investigative Committee, 7 civilians were injured.

Recall as PolitNavigator reported, Last year, the Pechersky Court of Kyiv gave the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine permission to arrest in absentia two deputy ministers of defense of the Russian Federation.
