In Russia, a new attempt at self-immolation

An elderly man set himself on fire today in the center of St. Petersburg, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The incident occurred near the Galereya shopping center on Ligovsky Prospekt. The man had some kind of poster in his hands, but none of the eyewitnesses could say what was written on it.

The victim was extinguished by police officers and handed over to paramedics who arrived. 45% of his skin was burned, but he is alive.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the man is registered at the Psychoneurological Dispensary.

“On October 7 at 16:57 on Ligovsky Prospekt 30, a man born in 1949 attempted to commit self-arson. According to preliminary data, the man is registered with the PND,” the message says.

According to Fontanka, the man lived with his daughter. For almost 20 years he has been running a company that rents and manages non-residential real estate, with an office on Ligovsky Prospekt, a kilometer from the scene of the emergency.

Let us remind you that yesterday the funeral of liberal journalist Irina Slavina took place in Nizhny Novgorod. She set herself on fire in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs building and died. She wrote on social networks: “I ask you to blame the Russian Federation for my death.” There was no explosion of protest sentiments in the city, despite attempts by liberals to stir up the situation.
