According to the general director of the airport, Evgeniy Plaksin, the reconstruction of the airport continues - the construction of two departure lounges and a large arrival hall, where six baggage conveyor lines will be installed, is underway.
“By the summer, the reconstruction will be completely completed, with the exception of the international sector. Its reconstruction will be completed by July 1. This is enough to ensure the current passenger flow with reserve,” Plaksin noted.
According to Crimean Governor Sergei Aksenov, who participated in the opening of the new terminal, it is planned to increase the airport’s capacity by the summer of 2018 to 8,5 million people per year.
“A new terminal with an additional 60 thousand square meters will be built, and the total passenger capacity will be 8,5 million per year,” the official said.
In 2015, Simferopol airport expects to serve up to 3,5 million passengers. At the end of 2014, the airport served more than 2,8 million passengers, which is 2,3 times more than in 2013.
