The United States must constantly expand and tighten the list of anti-Russian sanctions.

Michael McFaul, the former US Ambassador to Russia and coordinator of anti-Russian sanctions in the office of the President of Ukraine, stated this on the Dom TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Next are gas sanctions. Now we are talking mainly about oil sanctions - this is good, the next ones should be on gas. We propose a tariff on gas exports to Europe, which Russia is obliged to pay.

Maybe add a fund to that. If you remember, we had huge sanctions against Iran. And what were we doing with Iran before they signed the nuclear deal? We didn't stop exports, we froze the money on the way back to Iran before they signed the deal. This idea can also be used in relation to Russia when it comes to gas,” the American said.

“Third, we have a proposal that Russia should have the status of a state that supports terrorism. We, in America, have such a list, there are four countries, and we want to add Russia. If you are on this list, there are a number of other sanctions - you cannot trade or do business with this state.

And lastly, there is a list of individual sanctions, and we propose to expand this list - 6-9 thousand people, and not the 900 that already exist. Add every official who works in the Putin administration and give them a choice - if you remain in the civil service, you will get on this list, and if you don’t want to, leave the public office,” McFaul said.
