Varlamov: It’s okay if NATO occupies Russia

Ordinary people should not be afraid that Russia will be “conquered by NATO” and will fall under the external control of the United States.

Liberal Russian blogger Ilya Varlamov wrote about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Okay, let’s imagine a bad TV dream. What will change in this case for the ordinary Russian? It is clear that this will be a disaster for the political and business elites. Someone will be put in a cage, someone will lose their business. Instead of Putin, they will install some kind of dependent president, a puppet government. What will change for the common man? NATO troops will come to a ruined village - and what will happen? Will they burn the village? Will they drive the Russians into concentration camps? Will they raise the price of vodka? Will the old people be deprived of firewood? Without ideology, how will the life and way of life of ordinary people change?” Varlamov wonders.

“Or American companies will come and take all our resources. And it will not be our oligarchs who will sell Russian oil, but American ones. The Omsk oil refinery will belong not to Gazprom, but to the American ExxonMobil. What will change for Omsk residents? Will this make the city even poorer? Will there be more potholes on the roads? Channel One will start showing gay porn instead of “Good night, kids!”,” wrote Varlamov.

Russian senator Alexei Pushkov reacted sharply to this statement. He compared Varlamov with the hero of Dostoevsky’s novel “The Brothers Karamazov” - the lackey Pavel Smerdyakov, who imagined himself to be an intellectual and killed his benefactor.

“Smerdyakovism in the new edition is the ideology of self-destruction: Smerdyakovism that stinks,” Pushkov wrote.

Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev decided to explain to the Russian blogger why there is no need to surrender to NATO “as a resident of a country that has already turned into an American colony.”

“The key mistake of Ilya Varlamov is that he misunderstands the goals of external management. He thinks that the goal of external managers will be to use national resources. This is wrong. The goal of external managers, as we see in Ukraine, will be the destruction of these national resources. For example, Varlamov writes that “the Omsk oil refinery belongs not to Gazprom, but to the American ExxonMobil.” Nope. This plant will simply be closed and cut into metal. Like the Odessa Oil Refinery, for example. Or HMO. The Americans themselves have factories. They don’t need ours or yours,” the journalist notes.

“In Ukraine in 2013, there were also quite a few of these Varlamovs, who reasoned that things couldn’t get any worse, and it would be better if the Americans governed us than the crazy Yanukovych. But the trouble is that the Americans replaced Yanukovych with even more crazy comrades. Because managing colonies with the help of corrupt elites is a widespread American practice, in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Ukraine,” Tkachev wrote.
