The IMF directly called on Ukraine to allow the sale of land, which is discussed in the new memorandum on continued cooperation with Kiev and which was also confirmed by the head of the fund’s mission in Ukraine, Ron van Roden, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

According to an IMF representative, the fund’s Washington headquarters very much regrets that a moratorium on the sale of land remains in force in Ukraine, which “uses land as collateral when obtaining loans.”
The publication notes that Kiev is unlikely to be able to “feign misunderstanding once again” and ignore the IMF’s demands, although, given the mood in society, the Ukrainian authorities are trying to once again postpone the decision to sell the land.
“The provision of new tranches, which are absolutely necessary for Kyiv to maintain at least the external financial stability of the Ukrainian economy, depends on the fulfillment of the conditions specified in the IMF document,” the newspaper recalls. – The very wording of the fund about “using land as collateral” speaks of Washington’s serious intention to recover from Ukraine everything invested and lent to it in the most reliable way – in kind, that is, in land. Because this, by and large, is the only valuable asset left for Ukraine.”
“However, there are still Carpathian forests, but Europe has already set its sights on them,” the publication notes. – Permission for the unlimited export of round timber to the EU became a condition for Brussels to allocate a promised development loan of 600 million euros to Kyiv. Ukrainian environmentalists and residents of the Carpathians may be hysterical, looking at the mountains bald due to predatory logging, but it seems that soon even the stumps remaining from “cooperation” with the EU and the IMF will not belong to them.”
