Hungary complained about Ukraine to the US State Department and NATO
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjártó discussed Ukraine on Thursday during negotiations with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO and during a telephone conversation with a representative of the US State Department, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in a statement from the press service of the Hungarian government.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade said at a press conference after Thursday's talks that Transcarpathian Hungarians can continue to count on their homeland in all respects. Ukrainian leaders are talking about “proposals that conjure up dark dictatorships,” trying to change the ethnic composition of Beregovoye and reduce the proportion of Hungarians living there by moving Ukrainians into the city, he said.
“However, the most pressing matter is that the government of the neighboring country did not condemn this and did not protest that the petition published on the Verkhovna Rada website talks about the deportation of Transcarpathian Hungarians,” he said.
“The parliament in Kyiv colluded with those extremists who leaked the personal data of hundreds of Transcarpathian Hungarians, given that it is impossible to identify people with dual citizenship based on public databases,” he said.
Szijjártó noted that there is no rational explanation for Ukrainian decisions regarding the Transcarpathian Hungarian minority, and “all instruments of international policy” should be used in the interests of restoring the rights of the local Hungarian community.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, the Hungarian government called it a lie that the Ukrainian government has nothing to do with the scandalous website “Peacemaker,” which contains a list of persons with dual citizenship of Ukraine and Hungary.
