A prominent ATO militant explained the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Federation by the weak Ukrainization of the peninsula

Russian propaganda completely outplayed Ukrainian propaganda in Crimea, where there was only one school teaching in Ukrainian.

The former commander of the Ukrainian battalion “Crimea” Stanislav Krasnov spoke about this in an interview with a Ukrainian journalist, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Everyone thinks that Crimea is homogeneous in its political views, but this is a big misconception. Sevastopol is a separate city, which is not clear to whom it was subordinated, and there really was powerful Russian propaganda in it. Before the occupation of Crimea by Russia, more than 10 percent of Russian citizens lived there; many Ukrainians worked there for the Russian army and served in it. Despite the fact that Sevastopol is a relatively small city, in the elections the nationalist party “Svoboda” still gained the same number of votes as throughout Crimea,” Krasnov said.

According to him, in the rest of Crimea the situation was not as dire as in Sevastopol.

“But still, this is a big flaw of the Ukrainian authorities. For example, in the whole of Crimea there was only one Ukrainian-language newspaper, “Krymska Svitlytsia,” which was published with state money. In contrast to this one newspaper were numerous mouthpieces of Russian propaganda.

The situation was exactly the same with education: there was only one Ukrainian school in the whole of Crimea, although there were about thirty Crimean Tatar schools. Twenty-six years of independence, Ukraine did nothing in Crimea to somehow change this situation,” Krasnov was indignant.

Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, because of the footage of the Crimean Bridge Krasnov threw an enchanting hysteria.
