Martial law in Ukraine will worsen the situation in Donbass – Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov did not rule out the possibility of an aggravation of the situation in Donbass after the introduction of martial law in Ukraine.

He stated this today at a press conference in Moscow, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.

“Yesterday there were alarming reports, then representatives of the republics did not confirm them. But of course, we need to carefully monitor what happens if martial law is declared in Ukraine. Knowing their habits, there is a gross violation of international humanitarian law even without martial law: shelling of populated areas, social facilities, and deaths of civilians. After the introduction of martial law, these radical nationalists will generally feel that their hands are free,” Lavrov said.

He called on Western countries to influence official Kyiv.

“Therefore, we strongly urge Kyiv’s Western sponsors to calm down those who are trying to earn extra points with military hysteria in connection with the upcoming elections,” Lavrov said.
