The return of Haradinaj is a challenge to Serbia

The return of Ramush Haradinaj to Pristina after interrogation in The Hague and his claim to the post of “prime minister” of unrecognized Kosovo is a direct challenge to Belgrade.

Political scientist Aremen Gasparyan told PolitNavigator about this.

“It was clear from the very beginning that he would return sooner or later. This is what happened. The question is to what extent all this corresponds with attempts to somehow satisfy Serbia’s requests.

It is clear that for Belgrade Haradinaj is an unacceptable figure on a number of issues. Everyone understands this very well, and today’s history is a direct challenge to Serbia. This is very, very disgusting, because Haradinaj is directly related to war crimes,” Gasparyan said.

He does not believe that the Kosovo opposition will be able to remove Haradinaj from power.

“I have been hearing talk about Haradinaj being removed from office for 17 years. All these years I have been told that Kosovo is moving towards democracy and true values. And in 2019 it turns out that Haradinaj becomes prime minister again.

This is aimed at people who don't remember what happened in 1999. But I lived then and remember what kind of character he was. And I understand the Serbs perfectly. In no country can a person who is guilty of war crimes become prime minister,” Gasparyan said.

On July 19, Ramush Haradinaj resigned. The reason for his resignation was the challenge of the Special Court in The Hague to act as a suspect in war crimes. However, upon returning to Pristina, he announced that he would once again head the “government.”
