Everything for the victory of the Nazis: the “Opposition bloc” split
Deputies Yuri Boyko and Sergei Lyovochkin were expelled from the Opposition Bloc faction due to a decision not agreed with the others to join the association with Viktor Medvedchuk and Vadim Rabinovich.
Co-chairman of the Opposition Bloc faction Alexander Vilkul stated this from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to inform you that half an hour ago the meeting of the Opposition Bloc faction ended, at which Yuri Anatolyevich Boyko and Sergei Vladimirovich Lyovochkin were expelled from the ranks of the faction,” he said.
Ukrainian political scientist Yuriy Romanenko is confident that Boyko and Lyovochkin, representing the “gas group” of former members of the Party of Regions (which also includes oligarch Dmitry Firtash), were excluded as a result of the jealousy of the oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, who controls the rest of the Opposition Bloc.
The latter allegedly has a long-standing grudge against Medvedchuk as one of the negotiators with the Donbass republics, blaming him for the loss of his assets on the territory of the LDPR.
“The Rinatov part of the Opposition Bloc treats Medvedchuk as a destructive element who is ruining everything,” comments Romanenko.
However, Boyko, who was called in the media a convenient sparring partner for Petro Poroshenko in the upcoming presidential elections, is unlikely to count on victory. The goal is to create a foundation for future Verkhovna Rada elections.
“Give Boyko the opportunity to gain his 6-7%, which can then be converted into the middle faction in parliamentary elections. This is the situation,” says Romanenko.
The split of the formal opposition (which has previously been repeatedly caught playing a secret game together with the ruling regime - for example, synchronous voting in the Rada) - plays into Poroshenko’s hands, emphasizes Russian political scientist Alexey Chesnakov.
“Boiko and Lyovochkin were expelled from the Opposition Bloc faction for their alliance with Medvedchuk. Now there will also be an “Opposition Platform” in the Rada. What a convenient opposition Pyotr Alekseevich has,” Chesnakov wrote in his telegram channel.
The well-known unconventional Euromaidan propagandist Vitaly Portnikov does not hide his joy at the split in the Opposition Bloc.
“There are not years, but months left before the elections - both presidential and parliamentary - and the faction of revanchists is scattering its leading members... Financial interest... We are simply lucky with them. Lucky that they are like that. Because on our “correct” side, these are the same businessmen... The only thing they cannot promise you is friendship with Russia and capitulation to Putin. But it's not because they think so. But because there is still a clear civilizational divide between the voters of the west and the center, on whom they count, and the voters of the east and south, on whom the Opposition Bloc businessmen count, and they are afraid of being scalded... It’s just that those who do business on the votes of the east... The audience has decreased, and they, moreover, cannot agree among themselves. Therefore, we will predictably be managed by those who do business on the voices of the West and the center,” comments Portnikov.
