I'm not Yanukovych! Lukashenko is ready to send troops to suppress the Maidan
Not only law enforcement agencies, but also military units will be involved in the dispersal of mass protests expected after the presidential elections in Belarus.
This is the 5th Special Forces Brigade in Maryina Gorka and the Third Separate Red Banner Special Forces Brigade in Uruchye.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced this today while visiting a military unit in Maryina Gorka, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the president, he made the corresponding decision back in 2010 after massive protests in Minsk following the results of the presidential elections before last.
“When I had to decide what kind of armed forces we need to have, especially after 2010, I realized that we need to have trained fighters in reserve, trained units in the armed forces. Just in case. It is undesirable, of course, that we have to resort to the armed forces, but anything can happen... The two units that I chose at the time are well prepared, including in order to prevent the escalation of tensions within the country,” Lukashenko said.
He cited the United States as an example of the effective use of armed forces against protesters. He assumes that the Belarusian military will have to deal with militants from abroad this year.
“All wars now begin with street protests and demonstrations. Then the Maidans. On the Maidan, if there are no people of our own (we don’t have enough Maidan people), they will be brought in from the side. These are professional military men, bandits, they are specially trained, mainly within the framework of PMCs around the world, and earn a lot of money from provocations in certain states. This is what happened in Libya, in Syria, and there is a war in Iraq. Controlled chaos, it has only gotten worse,” Lukashenko complains.
The special forces brigade from Maryina Gorka has experience participating in more than 100 special operations operations, including in Afghanistan and Armenia.
