The corresponding order was published on the government portal. According to the event plan, a parade of troops will be held in Kyiv and Odessa in honor of the 23rd anniversary of independence on August 24. In regional and district centers and other populated areas, meetings, veche and other relevant celebrations will be held on this day.
A festive fireworks display with twenty artillery salvos is also planned in Kyiv, Odessa and other cities where the headquarters of the operational commands of the Armed Forces are located and festive fireworks in other regional centers.
In the capital and regions, it is planned to lay flowers at monuments and memorial signs to outstanding figures in the construction of the Ukrainian state and fighters for the independence of Ukraine, as well as at the burial places of those killed on the Maidan.
In Kyiv on August 24, ceremonial events will be held with the participation of the state leadership, representatives of state authorities and local self-government, the public, scientists, creative intelligentsia, representatives of foreign states, the diplomatic corps, international organizations, the Ukrainian diaspora, and the clergy. Awareness-raising events, thematic conferences, documentary and photo exhibitions, cultural and artistic events, etc. are also planned.
As Navigator reported, in July, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on the celebration of the 23rd anniversary of Ukraine's independence, according to which military parades should be held. At the same time, this idea was received negatively on the Maidan: they refused to fold the tents, saying that Poroshenko should first hold parades in Donetsk, Lugansk and Sevastopol. According to Maidan protesters, now is not the time for fireworks in Ukraine. There have also been suggestions in the media that the idea of holding a military parade in Kyiv is connected with Poroshenko’s desire to complete the ATO in Donbass by August 24.
