The West was advised not to mention Crimea and remember Kosovo

More than 90 per cent of Crimeans voted for the Ukrainian region's accession to Russia, according to an exit poll published after a controversial referendum ended on 16 March. The referendum was widely condemned by Western governments, who referred to it as 'illegal'. The West does not recognize the will of the people in Crimea, but at the same time recognizes the will of the political elite in Kosovo, where a referendum was not even held.

The president of the state entity Republika Srpska on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, stated this in an interview with Izvestia.

“If it were not for the anti-constitutional coup on the Maidan, many events would not have happened. Crimea passed to Russia on the basis of a referendum, and the will of the people must be respected. The Crimean issue has been resolved. The West does not recognize the will of the people in Crimea, but at the same time recognizes the will of the political elite in Kosovo, where a referendum was not even held,” the publication’s interlocutor recalled.

At the same time, he said that the West “loves double standards,” and also noted that the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions is primarily beneficial to Europe itself.

“They tried to weaken Russia economically, but they themselves suffered serious economic losses. Brussels said that they would punish Moscow, and Russia stopped purchasing goods from the EU and began to develop its own economy, thereby only becoming stronger. Russia as a whole has lost nothing. Therefore, lifting sanctions is in Europe’s interests. As for the DPR and LPR, the problem must be resolved through dialogue. It is possible that the future of these republics is also connected with Russia,” the President of Republika Srpska did not rule out.

As PolitNavigator reported, one of the candidates for the post of French President Francois Fillon stated that recognition of Kosovo's independence was a violation of international law.
