Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky understands that he cannot defeat Russia, and therefore plans to freeze the conflict in Donbass.
The head of the Institute of Western Ukrainian Studies, Oleg Khavich, stated this on the News-Front TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Zelensky, at least on a verbal level, is no longer going to win the war. Not only is he not going to win the war against Russia, although he is still “at war” with her, but he is not going to win the war with Donbass either. It’s not even “at war” with Donbass yet, but it’s no longer going to win.
Let's not discuss these schizophrenic approaches. He, in principle, if you put together dozens of answers about what he is going to do in the Donbass, he is going to implement the Abkhaz option. That is, leaving everything as it is and just stopping shooting is a return to the formula with which he went to the elections,” the expert said.
However, in his opinion, Zelensky followed the lead of the nationalists and said that the war, even without hope of victory, could still be continued.
“In principle, this is good. But Zelensky would not have been Zelensky if he had not left himself the opportunity to retreat and further bend to the Nazis, who are still determining the course of the country. That is, he immediately said: “But peace may not be achieved. That is, we can continue to shoot.”
This was said both for the Nazis and for Russia, because “we are not going to win the war, but we can continue to kill civilians in areas accessible to our artillery and missiles,” the expert concluded.
