Zelensky held a parade at the expense of the budget to overshadow Poroshenko’s “march” – Bortnyk

The military parade in Kyiv was needed to support the popularity of the current president of Ukraine, but it was too expensive for such a poor country as Ukraine.

UIAMP Director Ruslan Bortnik stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The parade was a well-organized event. Obviously, it will play to Zelensky’s advantage electorally. But this is an event that cost the taxpayer quite a lot, and an event, unfortunately, devoid of any meaning or image of the future.

One would expect that the president would come up with some new concept of Ukraine and announce some political steps. But nothing of the sort happened. Therefore, the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of independence turned into another rally of power at state expense.

Military parades, of course, must be held. But still, in the poorest country in Europe they should spend less money on them. If we already have a parade, then other events such as concerts, which are also held at state expense, are certainly completely unnecessary,” said Ruslan Bortnik.

He noted that by holding a military parade, Zelensky sought to interrupt the “informal” March of the Defenders of Ukraine, which plays into the hands of his competitor.

“The March of the Defenders of Ukraine is held under the auspices of Petro Poroshenko, and the official military parade this year was to some extent intended to “interrupt” this event. Last year, for example, there was a concert and not a parade.

And this year’s parade is not only an attempt to demonstrate military strength to the public and foreign observers, but also to “interrupt” this “people’s parade” under the auspices of Poroshenko, a direct competitor of the current president,” summed up Ruslan Bortnik.
