“Iron Dome” is recognized as a hopeless fantasy of Ukrainian patriots
Ukraine can hardly count on the fact that its army will have modern air defense systems, for example, the Iron Dome, which has proven itself in Israel. It was precisely this kind of battery that was proposed to be installed in Kyiv in Mariupol, the second city of the DPR, which was occupied by the Ukrainian army in the summer of 2014.
Ukrainian military expert Oleg Zhdanov stated this on the Donbass News Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Zhdanov, the purchase and operation of these complexes costs enormous amounts of money, which the Ukrainian army does not have.
“If we buy this battery, then every shot we need to replenish the ammunition. That is, about 100 thousand dollars. Personnel training will happen one time, and then we will need to buy spare parts - mainly those that will fail are launchers, because they wear out, the real arrow happens. The most expensive thing will be ammunition. They are constantly consumed if they are used,” Zhdanov said.
The expert also doubted that Israel would agree to sell its air defense systems to Ukraine for fear of losing secret data:
“We will have to guarantee the safety of this complex and the non-proliferation of technologies and secrets that will be transferred to us in connection with the purchase of this complex. I’m not sure today that we can guarantee this,” Zhdanov said.
Earlier, ex-ATO fighter Miroslav Gai said that all the talk that Ukraine could purchase the Iron Dome system for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is meaningless, since the Ministry of Defense does not have enough funds even for urgent needs.
PolitNavigator also wrote that the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Ermak expressed the idea of buying the American Patriot system, which experts soon criticized it.
