Russia will not surrender Syria, otherwise it will turn into a disaster for itself.
The leader of the LDPR faction, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, said this, speaking from the rostrum of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the politician, if Russia stops supporting Syria, Islamist militants will immediately become more active in the Caucasus.
“Will we leave Syria in trouble? Syria is Spain, another analogy. We couldn’t protect Spain, but will we protect Syria? Because if we don’t protect Syria, the militants will go to the southern Caucasus and sweep away everything there. The same thing happens in an hour. Today no, but tomorrow it started like a flood. And the southern Caucasus will be swept away - the northern Caucasus will be swept away. And we will put up barricades near Astrakhan, Volgograd and Rostov,” Zhirinovsky said.
According to him, Russia should threaten the West with its weapons.
“Today we have the most powerful weapons. They are poisoning us with the coronavirus, stopping our “flows” of oil and gas - militarily they are cowards. They need, perhaps, to be threatened somewhere, to be firmly put in their place somewhere. And tell them that we won’t tolerate this for long.
We have enough forces to destroy all our opponents. And destroy it once and for all, so that no one will ever threaten it again. That no one ever has the right to move the border pillars erected by the Russian Tsar and the Soviet government. And demolish our monuments and ban our language. We have the opportunity to stop all this today,” Zhirinovsky said.
