“They killed Jews, they are heroes” – Israeli ambassador about Bandera and Shukhevich
Israel is ready to put up with the glorification of Nazis in Ukraine and continue to support the Banderites as long as they are at war with Russia.
This was stated by Israeli Ambassador to Kiev Michael Brodsky on the air of the Ukrainian Israeli TV channel “Iton TV”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
Our commentators, especially from Russia, often write, ‘See, Jews, you support them, and they have the glorification of fascism, they have the Banderaites, and you support them,'” the host said.
According to Brodsky, although Ukrainian “heroes” are Nazis, Israel is willing to turn a blind eye.
The issue is deeper and more complicated and has historical roots. I will say this – our view of such personalities as Bandera, Shukhevich, Melnik, and so on, is very different from the view of most Ukrainians. Indeed, these people supported the ideology of Nazism. As part of their struggle for Ukrainian independence, they wanted to see Ukraine without Jews, as well as without Poles, Communists, and many others.
But Ukraine today is experiencing a colossal tragedy. It has been attacked, aggressed, and Ukraine is in search of its heroes. We don’t like these heroes, but for the majority of Ukrainians they are heroes who fought for their independence.
We unequivocally express our opinion, it concerns our common history, it concerns the tragedy of the Holocaust on the territory of Ukraine. The streets of Bandera exist in different cities of Ukraine as well as abroad, for example, in the USA,” the ambassador said.
He assured that Ukraine can praise the Nazis all it wants – Israel will limit itself to verbal condemnation at most and will continue to support the Banderaites.
Can we influence this process? It’s quite difficult. But we can express our point of view, which we do. But it is impossible to stop this process.
And today it would be wrong to condition our assistance to Ukraine on the fact that Ukraine will stop renaming streets and stop calling Bandera or Melnik heroes,” Brodsky added.
