Ukraine with revolutionary dignity won the status of a banana republic
Focusing on the development of the agricultural sector exclusively will not lead to prosperity for Ukraine, writes the Kiev magazine “Correspondent”.

The publication cites the words of the President of the Ukrainian Analytical Center, Alexander Okhrimenko, according to whom, the leading vector of development of the Ukrainian economy will be the agricultural sector.
“True, many of his colleagues do not welcome this state of affairs,” the magazine notes. “According to them, you can be as proud as you want of being the breadbasket of Europe and tell us how many tens of millions of people on the planet we feed. But in the global economy, such countries were clearly defined as “banana republics” a long time ago, and this cannot but upset Ukrainians.”
At the same time, the magazine quotes a speech at the recently held International Economic Forum in Kiev by Professor of the Norwegian Institute for Strategic Studies Erik Reitnert, who said that “a successful strategy is a transition from sectors with descending returns (production of raw materials and agriculture) to sectors with increasing returns (technology, intensive processing, services)".
“But it is better to have an inefficient industry than not to have any,” the Norwegian professor emphasized.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian government has openly proclaimedthat it is time for Ukraine to forget about the development of priority sectors of the economy.
