Avakov begs Washington for a label for the Ministry of Internal Affairs
The recent visit of Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov to the United States is not related to his claims to the post of President of Ukraine, as a number of experts have stated.
The head of the Ukrainian political consulting group Dmitry Razumkov said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t know who will go and whether he will go to the bride next. In principle, our politicians quite often go to shows, to have breakfast, or on some other, not always political, issues. But I think Arsen Borisovich is not aspiring to the post of president, as many people talk about him today, especially within the framework of his peace plan in eastern Ukraine,” the expert said.
In his opinion, Avakov’s main task during the visit was an attempt to obtain guarantees of maintaining control over the Ministry of Internal Affairs even in the event of a change of power in Ukraine.
“During this time, quite a lot of power has been concentrated under him. This, naturally, is the ministry, the police, and other structures. This includes the Border Service and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which today is already the DSNS. He also has volunteer battalions, now structural units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. I think that there is a certain informal influence on the structures of the extreme right,” added Razumkov, clarifying what the “National Corps” means.
During his visit to the United States, Avakov met with FBI Director Christopher Wray.
It is noteworthy that during the election campaign in the United States, Avakov called the current US President Donald Trump a “dangerous outcast.”
