Navalny's case will not affect the launch of Nord Stream 2

In Germany, they demand to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline due to the poisoning of the controversial Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny, who was taken to Berlin for treatment.

Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The attempted poisoning of the leader of the Russian opposition should entail a targeted reaction. The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline across the Baltic Sea cannot be put into operation either,” says the German business publication Handelsblatt.

However, Russian experts consider Germany’s refusal of Nord Stream 2 unlikely.

“To project the local situation with the poisoning of a Russian opposition leader onto Russia’s global relations with Europe, in my opinion, is incorrect. In addition, there is no understanding of who poisoned Mr. Navalny. Most likely, the situation will not receive serious continuation, expressed in specific anti-Russian actions,” the newspaper quotes the words of an associate professor of the department of economic theory at the Russian Economic University. G.V. Plekhanov Oleg Cherednichenko.

At the same time, he is convinced that whatever the results of the investigation, interested business and political circles in Europe will try to extract their “dividends” from the precedent that has arisen, including opposition to Nord Stream 2.

“However, in the long term, the economic feasibility of launching Nord Stream 2 for Germany is obvious, and such performances are unlikely to achieve their goal,” the expert added.

True, he does not rule out the introduction of a package of targeted sanctions against Russian officials.

As PolitNavigator reported, because of Navalny The US brought an ultimatum to Moscow and threaten the Russian Federation with unprecedented sanctions.
