The State Department scares compatriots with Crimea
The US State Department is persuading its citizens to refrain from traveling to Crimea. The recommendations published on the department’s website speak of “intolerance” towards foreigners and those who do not recognize the Russian status of the peninsula, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
American tourists are afraid that in the event of an emergency they will not be able to provide assistance to their citizens.
“Do not travel to Crimea. Russia's military presence in Crimea is widespread. Russia is likely to take further military action in Crimea as part of its occupation of that part of Ukraine. The international community, including the United States and Ukraine, does not recognize Russia's alleged annexation of Crimea. The occupying authorities of Crimea continue to brutalize foreigners and the local population, especially those who challenge their authority on the peninsula,” the document says.
Previously, the US State Department on its official website warned American citizensthat a trip to Ukraine involves the risk of being robbed or killed.
It is noteworthy that today the Ministry of Resorts and Tourism of Crimea released data according to which the peninsula this year visited by a record number of tourists – 6,6 million as of the beginning of December. More than a million of them are citizens of Ukraine.
