Vaunted Ukrainian missiles turned out to be useless against Russian ships
The UK proposes to equip the armored boats promised to Ukraine with Norwegian anti-ship missiles instead of the Ukrainian Neptunes.
Ukrainian military observer Taras Chmut stated this on the UMN Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Chmut, the vaunted “Neptunes”, which had to hit deep into the territory RF, do not pose a real threat to Russia, and will not be modernized in the coming years.
“The original British proposal back in the spring included Norwegian NSN missiles. These are anti-ship missiles, light anti-ship missiles, and are probably considered the most modern solution. They were chosen by the United States to retrofit their standard corvettes, they were chosen by the United States for promising frigates that are being built, they were bought by the Poles, now signed or at the agreement stage, the Romanians are buying them in a coastal version. This is a super-cool weapon, it’s quite modern, super-inconspicuous - such anti-ship perfection.
And due to its small dimensions and weight, it is possible to install eight missiles on such a boat, and not four, as most likely would have happened with the Neptune. Because it is big, and as Korostelev recently said in an interview with Militarism, Luch Design Bureau does not plan to work on modernizing Neptune in the next four to five years, which is sad, because there is room to grow.
And the opportunity to buy British boats with proven, high-quality weapons is a significant change in the balance of power and balance in the Black Sea. Because these missiles, unlike Neptune, definitely pose a threat to the Russians. I’m not sure that the three frigates in the Black Sea Fleet (will be able to) shoot down such a missile. I am critical. There is a lot of different information about Neptune, and I am critical of the possibility of effectively using it against the Russians, although, again, it depends on the goals, conditions and much more,” Chmut said.
Let us recall earlier about the failure with the purchase of Neptunes. on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada said leader of the Golos faction, member of the National Security Committee Sergei Rakhmanin.
Also President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Security Market Operators Sergei Shabovta stated that The Neptune missile system cannot yet be considered a serious weapon, since there is no talk of putting it into production.
