Kiev political scientist: “Without Ukraine there would have been no victory over Hitler”

As recent sociological surveys show, the historical memory of Russians and Ukrainians is moving in different directions.

As reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent, Alexey Garan, a Kiev political scientist and scientific director of the sociological foundation “Democratic Initiatives”, said this in an interview with the Kraina magazine.

“The historical memory of Ukrainians and Russians goes in different directions. 50 percent of Ukrainians believe: Stalin and Hitler are responsible for starting World War II by signing the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, according to our survey. But in the Russian Federation there is not even a discussion on this topic. When we first got these numbers in 2020, I thought it was a mistake. But this year the statistics are the same,” said the political scientist.

“Putin also states that Russia would have won World War II without the anti-Hitler coalition and Ukraine. This is arrogance and cynicism. The war was going on here. We have the biggest losses. Our understanding of World War II has already become different from that of the Russians. 50 percent of Ukrainians say that there would have been no victory over Nazism without the anti-Hitler coalition. For Russians, Stalin is still one of the positive figures,” Garan is indignant.

As PolitNavigator reported, Garan previously threw a tantrum on TV, having heard about the power of Russia.
