Coronavirus hits Ukrainian economy

The coronavirus outbreak in China has already significantly impacted the prospects of the Ukrainian economy and will continue to do so.

Economic expert Viktor Skarshevsky stated this on the Internet channel “Capital”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.

According to Skarshevsky, we are talking about a fall in prices for Ukrainian raw materials and agricultural products, the buyer of which has traditionally been China.

“The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine says that [the coronavirus] only affects Ukraine through tourism. And since tourism is poorly developed here, especially with China, it has no effect at all. But this is a bit of a non-economic approach.

Firstly, right away, what you can see is that Ukraine is a raw materials country, we export raw materials, unfortunately, with a backward economic structure. This export is raw materials and has low added value. It also includes ore and iron ore. So iron ore has fallen in price by minus 11% since the coronavirus. That is, this immediately hits Ukrainian exporters. Less foreign exchange earnings. Also, downward trends in prices have already begun for grain,” Skarshevsky said.

Earlier, as PolitNaivgator reported, experts warned that coronavirus will kill Ukraine in a matter of days.
