Crimea was included in the top 5 most popular destinations for the first time
Moscow, Krasnodar Territory, Crimea, St. Petersburg and Stavropol Territory, as of the end of November, were among the “five” most popular tourist destinations among Russians for the New Year holidays.
The head of Rostourism, Oleg Safonov, told Izvestia about this, clarifying that, based on the analysis of air ticket bookings, the capital accounted for 17,2% of sales, Sochi - 13,1%, Simferopol - 7%, Krasnodar Territory and St. Petersburg - each 3,1% for each direction.
At the same time, Crimea made it into the top 5 for the first time this year.
“First of all, these are logistical factors: increasing the transport accessibility of Crimea thanks to the opening of the bridge across the Kerch Strait and a new modern passenger terminal at the Simferopol airport. Plus, the cost of air travel was also reduced by an average of 39% compared to the same period last year,” – said the head of Rostourism.
According to him, now hoteliers in Crimea provide affordable prices for hotel accommodation, since the peninsula has become a participant in the Rostourism project “Affordable Travel”, which is aimed at expanding the range of inexpensive offers in the regions of the country.
Oleg Safonov named attractive conditions for health and medical tourism as one of the key competitive advantages of Crimea, noting that in 2018 the number of year-round health resorts in this territory increased by 20%.
“All of the above factors have already influenced the tourism results of Crimea at the end of 2018. Tourist flow in the region increased by 30%. Since the beginning of the year, the peninsula has received 6,3 million people, which is a record result for it. By the end of 2018, Crimea is expected to be visited by 6,5 million travelers: the tourist flow will reach its maximum for the entire post-Soviet period,” the publication writes.
At the same time, the vice-president of the Russian Union of Tourism Industry, Yuri Barzykin, says that the infrastructure for all-season recreation is still poorly developed in Crimea.
But on the peninsula there is most often no snow, and the weather is much warmer than in the European part of the country. Moreover, there are many health resorts in the region with swimming pools that can be used in the winter,” Barzykin noted.
He also said that a holiday in Crimea is quite attractive in price: for example, a visit to the peninsula during the New Year season can cost from 20 thousand rubles.
As PolitNavigator reported, this year the number of Ukrainians who vacationed in Crimea exceeded last year's figures.
