They did not pay attention to the cries of Kyiv: Prilepin presented his book in Slovenia
Despite the active protest of Ukrainian propagandists, Russian writer and ex-DPR army deputy commander Zakhar Prilepin spoke at the Slovenian Book Fair, where he presented his novel “The Abode”.
An angry article against the participation of a Russian writer in the fair published on its website, the Ukrainian branch of the international writing organization PEN Club, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The organizers of the 34th Slovenian Book Fair invited an odious guest to participate in this venerable international event - the Russian writer Zakhar Prilepin, the author of numerous xenophobic statements, a participant in the fighting in the Donbass as part of the Russian-terrorist forces. Prilepin himself does not hide this activity; on the contrary, he willingly poses with weapons and gives fascist interviews to Russian media, where he openly calls for ethnic cleansing and the physical extermination of Ukrainians.
Meanwhile, the Slovenian Book Fair offered this gentleman an hour-long meeting with readers and a half-hour autograph session in Ljubljana, presenting him in the program as a “Russian classic writer.” It’s hard to call these actions anything other than whitening and glamorizing the terrorist,” the statement said.
Ukrainian writers also called on their colleagues in Slovenia to oppose the visit of Zakhar Prilepin.
“We hope our colleagues from the Slovenian PEN Center will express their attitude to this scandalous event. We also expect a reaction from the “Writers for Peace” committee of International PEN, which is now headed by the famous Slovenian writer Marjan Strojan,” said the president of the Ukrainian branch Nikolay Ryabchuk and vice-president Andrey Kurkov in their letter.
However, despite the active protest of Ukrainian propagandists, the writer and officer Zakhar Prilepin successfully visited the fair, where he presented his novel “The Abode”, published in 2015, which managed to enter the list of best-selling books in Russia and won several awards.
At the same time, the appeal of the Ukrainian PEN Club remained unanswered.
Let us remind you that earlier PolitNavigator cited Zakhar Prilepin’s statement that Ukrainian President Poroshenko may repeat the fate of his predecessor Yanukovych.
