In the footsteps of ancient ukrov: In Kyiv they want to dig the Azov-Black Sea Canal for a billion dollars
In order to neutralize the value of the Crimean Bridge for Moscow and obtain a passage from the Black Sea to the Azov Sea that is not controlled by Moscow, it is necessary to dig your own canal, costing a billion dollars.
Former Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Koshulinsky stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today the Kerch Bridge brings huge economic losses for Ukraine. We are, in fact, losing exclusive transit, losing jobs, our large ports: Mariupol, Berdyansk,” he noted.
The solution to this problem, according to Koshulinsky, could be the creation of a new shipping canal.
“If the Kerch Strait is blocked for us, then let’s do plan B. We will build the Azov-Black Sea Canal. According to experts, it is 115 kilometers. Of these, 93 are the waters of Lake Sivash, and the rest is still an isthmus. You can even calculate this: with a width of 120 meters and a depth of 12 meters, we need approximately a billion dollars in order to make another passage for our ships. That's all. And the value of the Kerch Bridge for Moscow was completely different then,” the politician concluded.
Let us recall that earlier PolitNavigator cited a statement by military expert Vladislav Shurygin that Russia should close the passage to the Sea of Azov for Navy ships.
