Russia invited NATO ships to the Crimean “Ball”
Against the backdrop of intensified visits by NATO and US ships to the Black Sea, the Russian military in Crimea practiced hitting a sea target from the Bal coastal anti-ship missile system.
This was reported by the press service of the Black Sea Fleet, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The exercises took place at the Opuk inter-service combat training ground in eastern Crimea.
“During the exercise, the missilemen marched from a permanent deployment point to a designated area, deployed the complex and worked out an algorithm for detecting sea targets. After detecting a mock enemy surface ship, the combat crews received a signal to use missile weapons and fired at the target. As a result of an accurate hit, the target was destroyed.
The role of the mock enemy ship was performed by a surface target equipped with special corner radar reflectors,” the report says.
Earlier, Admiral of the Ukrainian Navy, military expert Igor Kabanenko said that Kyiv should demand a revision of the Montreux Convention, which limits the length of stay of warships of non-Black Sea states and their tonnage in the Black Sea, because in 1936, when the document was approved, the subsequently formed limitrophe states, such as Ukraine and Georgia, did not sign the convention.
In recent months, NATO ships have intensified visits to the Black Sea, bringing the presence to the level of 2014.
