The United States is using the Ukrainian factor to block the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and force European countries to purchase more expensive liquefied gas from their countries.
Alexey Chepa, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, announced this broadcast on Duma TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the politician, the situation in Ukraine is only a pretext for further anti-Russian sanctions.
“The United States is using the Ukrainian theme against Russian gas supplies. The Americans are ready to supply their liquefied gas, but this gas is approximately 30-40% more expensive than pipeline gas. Naturally, it is not profitable for Europe to take it, so the Americans are ready to supply it, imposing special conditions. Therefore, the question of gas dependence and European energy security on Russian gas supplies is constantly being raised,” Chepa said.
Formerly a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Dmitry Tymchuk saidthat without the Ukrainian gas transportation system Russia will not be able to fulfill its transit obligations to European countries, and therefore Ukraine is now in an advantageous position.
