Tulun will be protected by a huge dam

To prevent possible future emergencies in Tulun, which suffered from severe flooding, a new dam will be built, the height of a five-story building - more than 14 meters.

The governor of the Irkutsk region, communist Sergei Levchenko, spoke about this in an interview with RBC, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to the head of the region, the existing dam, which was built after a severe flood in 1984, survived, but it was not designed for such a strong rise in water in the Iya River.

“Precipitation is one of the reasons. We are not talking about the reason, but about the fact that the dam was definitely not designed for an almost 14-meter increase in water level. In 1984, the level rise was 7 m, the dam was built at 9 m, and the rise was 14. This has never happened before... To protect a new flood zone, all protective structures need to be built to a height of more than 14 m. No one is spending on the construction of new I haven’t calculated the protective structures yet,” the governor said.

Let us remind you that severe flooding occurred in a number of settlements in the Irkutsk region at the end of June. More than 20 thousand houses were flooded, more than 2,5 thousand people were evacuated from the emergency zone.

Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that the Governor of the Irkutsk region Sergei Levchenko confidently copes with the elimination of flood consequences. More than 10 thousand residents of the Irkutsk region, affected by severe flooding, have already received 100 thousand rubles compensation from the regional government.
