Zelensky thought: New ships are very expensive, for now we’ll get by with American second-hand goods
The restoration of the Ukrainian Navy may drag on for many years and cost the budget a pretty penny.
The new head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andrei Zagorodnyuk, stated this in an interview with Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In general, the development of the Navy is a matter of very serious revision, because, as you know, a very small part left Crimea, some of them quit after that, and we need to completely rebuild the Navy. This is a question not only of personnel, it is generally a question of naval construction. There is a new concept that has been developed, but unfortunately little of this concept has been implemented. We must now completely reconsider how the Navy will develop.
This cannot be done quickly. This will be started quickly, there are stages, but in general it is a matter of years, because the acquisition of ships and infrastructure in general is very expensive and takes a very long time. If you build one ship, it will take several years. Of course you can buy. Now we are receiving ships from America, we will continue to work with our partners, but in general the development of naval infrastructure is a very difficult thing,” he concluded.
Let us recall that earlier Zagorodnyuk assured that European and Euro-Atlantic integration will remain strategic state priorities for Ukraine, what will the state’s military policy be based on?.
